"Vermeer's Tulips"

I was visiting my older daughter and my grandson, when I noticed this beautiful vignette! It reminded me of a Vermeer painting. So I took a few snaps and commenced to do this painting. I'm not sure I even came close to duplicating his use of light, but hey, I tried! The only thing I left out were the cobwebs on the tulips. Confession: they were actually fake tulips!

"Sugar Coma"

Haven't done one of these tongue-firmly-in-cheek paintings in a while. If any humorous ideas come to mind, email me and I'll consider painting it!

"Blinded by the Night"

Just an interesting night scene I came across while out walking. I originally had some houses in the background, but I took them out because I thought they were distracting. I think it works better this way.

"Ab Fab"

This is our little princess Lizzie. I started this several months ago, but was hesitant to finish it. I finally decided a week ago that I was ready to give it another go. I debated whether to keep the background grey or not. I left it neutral because I think it helps draw your eye to the cat. Not sure if it works or not. What do you think?

"St. Albertus"

This is the last of the trio of Polish churches in the Eastern Market area of Detroit. Time to move on and do some paintings of the other amazing structures the city has to offer!

"Snow Thistles"

After our last snowfall a couple weeks ago I took a short hike around our local park. It was cool to se the snow blanketing the various tree branches. Then I spotted these thistle pods and thought they'd make an interesting painting.

"Cherry-ohs"

I thought I'd do a third dessert painting. Sort of a sweet triptych! Maybe these will end up in our kitchen. Anyway, these pastries were so tasty! Here's a plug for Costco. I seriously don't know how they do it. They offer eight pastries (four cherry and four almond paste) for $7.99--I'm sure they lose money on these! But I'm not complaining!

"TV."

Otherwise know as a Turkey Vulture. 50 feet up in the air, they look pretty cool. But up close, they sure are ugly. Here's one soaring through the sky At a distance!

"Loops #5"

I thought I'd do one using various blue and green hues. I also made it a bit simpler than the loops and block paintings I've done before.

"Blocks #7"

This was an experiment. I have some water-soluble oil paints that I've only used a couple times. I wanted to see if there's any difference in their intensity and that of acrylic paints. I really should have done the same painting with each, but I didn't. However, when comparing this painting with other ones I've done in the past. I can't tell the difference. I guess I'll stick with the acrylics!

"Red Hawk Up"

Okay, all you birders, it's a Red Shouldered Hawk. But I just like the play off "Black Hawk Down". Anyway, this is another in my bird series. I'm having fun with these. My approach is to find an image of a bird. Then paint a background that compliments the shape and movement of the bird image. Then I quickly outline the bird, and fill it in in a sketchy fashion. Not sure how many more I'll do.

"Eat Crow"

I thought I'd do another bird painting. I think this is going to turn into a series of paintings.

"Blue Jay Way"

I had several tubes of old paint that were almost empty and were starting to drive out. Rather than throw them out, I thought, why not give them one last ride on a canvas. So I squeezed out what I could and mixed them with a bit of white paint and started to play with them. I began making swirls with them. I was originally going to just use blues and call the painting "All Blues". But I got the idea of painting a Blue Jay and this is what it evolved into. I've since done a couple more in this style, which I'll be posting next.

"St. Josaphat"

Another in a series of historic Detroit churches. Didn't get the perspective quite right, but you get the idea.

"Sweetest Heart of Mary"

Another historic Detroit church. There are three beautiful churches with blocks of each other. I've painted two and will be working on the third shortly. Look for them here!

"Napoleon? Dynamite!"

I'm a dessert houd, so I don't know why I've never painted my favorite sweets before. I'm thinking this may become a whole series of food paintings. Look for more in the near future!

"Kiwi's Playhouse"

I decided to revisit this series. I found these in an amazing Armenian grocery story in LA a few weeks ago. They were so vibrant I simply ...
