"NighTree #1"

After doing the minimalist series of trees with snow on them, I decided to go out and grab some pix of trees at night. This is the first in the new series. Having just a few objects in the frame, really forces one to concentrate on composition.

"Edison's Press"

This was from Edison's Fort Meyers lab, which is now at Greenfield Village. I'm a huge Thomas Edison fan, and I love painting little vignettes like this.

"Olive Supreme"

After a long hiatus, I got back into painting about five years ago. I've been attempting to teach myself how to really paint. Not sure how successful I've been, but at least I've been prolific. Here my friends, is painting number 1,000! An accomplishment if not in quality, at least in quantity!

"Towel Bar"

I know, pretty boring title. But I really tried to come up with something a bit more creative, and failed. That said, this is our bathroom with the early morning sun shining on the towel rack I think it almost looked like a Mondrian painting. Hey, maybe I should rename it "Mondrian's Towel!"

"Puffing" movie still

Beautiful scene from a short documentary that's been nominated for an Oscar. It's a scene off the southern coast of Iceland. Just seeing it made me want to hop on a plane and visit it.

"Cask Party"

Visited the Docklands Museum in London early last summer. What a fascinating place. I could spent a couple days exploring it. Just way too much to see in the couple hours we had. I did take a bunch of pix however, so it should produce a number of interesting paintings.

"Karl Pfahler Field"

Mr.  Pfahler worked at my daughter's elementary school. He was a janitor, handyman, groundskeeper and a friend to everyone who knew him. He even taught an improvised shop class to the kids after school. When he passed away unexpectedly, I proposed they name the playground/field after him. It took a few years but they finally did. While out walking a week or so ago, I noticed the dramatic night sky above the school playground and snapped this photo. I decided to turn it into a painting. Here's to you, Mr. Pfahler!

"Glorious Gary"

Another in my series of steel mills. This one reminds me of driving from Detroit to Chicago. When I-94 hugs the shore of Lake Michigan, we were treated to a series of steel mills, billowing smoke. I decided to do this one in watercolors. I think it captures the feeling of the steel industry at its prime.

"Fly Shoes"

I just love the shadows the early morning sun was creating here. I'm not sure how many of you will get the obscure reference in the title. It comes from a line from an old children's song "Shoo fly, don't bother me."

"Smug Shot"

My daughter likes to joke that one of her cat's has a RBF! Well my Lizzie usually has a Resting Happy Face. I tried to capture her smiling. I think I came pretty close. Happy St. Valentine's Dat, eveyone!

"Orchid Blau"

I know that orchids don't come in this color naturally, But I still think they look incredible.
So I decided to do another one, this time in acrylics.

"The Wine of Summer"

This watercolor is from a screen grab from the movie of the same title. I've been finding a lot of great scenes from movies lately. And I've found some gems in even pretty mediocre films.

"SnowTree #10"

Last one in the series for now. Who knows?
If we ever get some more snow, I may revisit the series.

"SnowTree #7"

Revisiting this series. I find it interesting that there are seemingly endless variations of
snow in the trees out there. Ya gotta love nature!

"Milling Around"

I got half way into painting this and almost gave up on it. But sometimes it pays to slog on.
I think it turned out okay in the end.

"Lincoln Tudor or Lincoln Two-Door?"

It was hard to miss this stunning Tudr building in the heart of Lincoln. It turned out to be the tourist office, which I thought was very fitting.

"Top of the Pops"

I have this colorful display of pop bottles on our kitchen counter. The other day, the late afternoon sun was hitting them so dramatically, I just had to paint them. The shadows it was creating really grabbed my eye. BTW, I live in Detroit, and we call it "pop" around here!

"Kiwi's Playhouse"

I decided to revisit this series. I found these in an amazing Armenian grocery story in LA a few weeks ago. They were so vibrant I simply ...
