"Metropolitan UMC"

Cruising Woodward I found a number of noteworthy churches. Here's one of them.

"Mack Ave. Sunset 7-20-22"

Just another dramatic sunset. This scene is looking north, rather into the sunset. I just loved the fluffy, billowy pink clouds.

"Sunset in D" 6-25-22

I thought I'd use watercolors for this sunset. It was another scene on the night of my younger daughter's wedding. Just one interesting and dramatic cloud formation after another. The whole night!

"A Touch of Pink"

The is from our front garden bed--the only one where the flowers outnumber the weeds! I love the blue color of the hyacinths. When you can have them blue or magenta, just by adding a chemical to the soil, why the heck would you let them go white? I just don't get it. This is one of the Asiatic Lily's in the bed.

"Helios Palm"

As you'd expect, the Bahamas were lousy with palm trees. I though I'd do something a little different with them. The brilliant sun was peaking through some fronds. Made for a dramatic s scene.

"Memorable Memorial Church"

Doing some more experimenting with watercolors. I've done a bunch of churches in acrylics, but I thought I'd try one with watercolors. The medium almost demands doing it in a looser fashion. This one turned out sort of impressionistic.

"Conched Out"

There were so many little scenes i n the Bahama's, I don't know where to start. I took a ton of pix, so I have enough reference photos to last me through next winter. It'll be fun to paint things like this when there are three feet of snow on the ground!

"Love is Love"

Another one from my daughter's wedding night. Looked off in the distance and spotted this message on top of a building under construction. Talk about serendipity!

"The Perch"

Here's our cat Lizzie enjoying the view out our front window. She loves watching the birds and rabbits. I thought I'd give this painting a bit of a Matisse feel to it. Not sure if I was successful or not. But I think it turned out okay.

"Bahama Blues"

I recently bought a book on watercolor painting. I'm interested in trying out the various techniques in the book. Here's one that looks petty cool. It involves putting on a layer of paint, then rubbing some of it off with paper toweling. I think it turned out okay, only I think it would be more dramatic if the paper had less texture.

"Starfish"

This was on the wall of the master bedroom of the place where we stayed on Eleuthera. There were so many picturesque vignettes, I had to resist photographing them all.  Maybe the next time I visit I'll take some more reference photos.

"Dusk Governor's Harbor"

We spent a week in the Bahamas recently. The skies there were absolutely amazing. Soft billowy clouds ever day. And the sunsets were remarkable. This is a scene we witnessed while having dinner in a seaside resort in Governor's Harbor, Eleuthera.

"Sunset Downtown 6/25/22"

This was the sunset the night of my younger daughter's wedding. Absolutely spectacular, as was everything that evening!

"Simmons & Clark"

I was downtown (Detroit) for my younger daughter's wedding. It was held in a cool semi-industrial space up on the fifth floor. When I looked out the window I spotted this interesting scene. The sign for the jewelry store has to be from the 1940's. I love finding little gems like this around town.

"Dave's Place"

A friend of mine has one of the best gardens I've ever seen. This is his gardening shed, which is actually a converted garage. Lots of room for lots of stuff!

Four impressions of the Bahamas

I was in the Bahamas recently and these are a few watercolors I did while I was down there. Such a beautiful place. I took a ton of photos and now have about a year's worth of paintings to do! So look for more to come!

"Popular Tulip Poplar"

Spotted this while out on a walk. The tree has the most interesting leaves and flowers. I treated the background in a totally abstract way so it wouldn't detract from the leaves.

"Wedding"

My younger daughter's wedding was last weekend. I knew I wouldn't have much time to paint, but I did manage to squeeze in a quick sketch-painting inspired by the day's events. Voila!

"Lettuce Entertain You"

A loose painting of a bunch of lettuce at the Eastern Market.
