"Tree Frog"

After I did the owl painting, I thought I'd try something different. So I'm going to be working on a series of paintings I'll call "Indigenous Creatures" for now. This is the second installment. I'm planning on doing a bunch more. Feel free to email me with suggestions.

"Spike-Angeles National Forest"

While visiting our daughter in Los Angeles, we spent some time driving and hiking in the National Forest. Such a beautiful area. I loved seeing these weird spiky plants/trees. They were everywhere. The seedpods gave them a surreal look. Here's a watercolor I did from our hike.

"Owl Done"

When I initially painted this, I left the background white. But I felt it lacked something so I attached it with a palliated knife. I like the results. It has the feeling of an indigenous painting. I may do a few more using this technique.

"Bahamian Shells #8"

I thought this was an interesting combination.
I love the color of the fan whatchamacallit on the left.

"Ecumenical Theological Seminary"

I had the darnedest time tracking down the name of this building. Turns out it used to be the first Presbyterian Church. It's now called the Ecumenical Theological Seminary. It's one of two buildings on Woodward made with these large reddish blocks. Interesting architecture for sure!

"Banco De Jesus Cristo"

Confession:This was a repurposed old bank building and was called the Church f Jesus Christ. Though I'd have a bit of fun with the name. Hopefully I won't burn in hell for this minor discretion. Anyway, the city of Detroit is teaming with these old bank buildings. I think one of the reasons they're still standing is their vaults are so well built, they'd be difficult to destroy. Just my theory. Anyway, I've been slowly working on documenting all these beautiful old buildings.

"Birch Backdrop"

  Who doesn't love birch trees?
