Vinnie's Vaseful

 

I did a couple of sketches and a watercolor before I did this painting. It's influenced by Van Gogh and Claude Monet. My wife commented that she thought it was kind of busy, but that's what I like about it. I'm thinking of doing sever more in this style. It's fun to keep it loose, once in a while!

Thought I'd do something simple in watercolors. Found this image on the web and had a bit of fun with it. The trickiest part was getting the vase to look translucent.

This was the last in the series I did of bird heads. I had a blast doing it, but it's time to move on. The biggest challenge I had was making all the backgrounds look different. I think I accomplished that.

"Golf in the Kingdom"

 

I saw this really interesting movie recently. It's not just a golf movie, but about how we deal with life and the world around us. Sort of a Zen prayer in the form of a movie. Kind of hard to describe--I guess you just have to see the movie. Anyway, the scenery was absolutely gorgeous! So I did a couple of screen grabs and I did this monotone watercolor from one of them.

"Vikte's Lily"

 

Our neighbor has the most beautiful bed of lilies. I believe these are called Turk's Cap Lillies. 

Correct me if I'm wrong. 

"Whittier Hibiscus"

 

I was driving by this house that had three huge bunches of Hibiscus plants in the front yard. This was one of them. There was one with beautiful red flowers and one that was mixed pinked white. I decided to do a minimalist painting with watercolors of it.

One ugly bird. I'm not sure but I believe this is a Turkey Vulture.

I have to admit, this is one of the zaniest birds I've ever encountered. Truth be told, all the birds in this series are real birds. Let's just say I found the images from a reliable source. And let it go at that.

I've done a bunch of paintings of birds, mainly in flight. But I though I'd do a series of bird's heads. I'm calling it "Birdshead Revisited". Okay, it's a groaner, I'll admit. Look for a bunch more to follow!
