My love of the arts began early on in life and was greatly influenced by an inspiring photography teacher in high school. I began teaching myself to paint in 2019 and have had my work exhibited in numerous shows in the Detroit area. One of the joys of being an artist is looking at the world in totally different ways and discovering a painting or photograph in a million unexpected places. For inquiries: dominmark@yahoo.com

"Inuit Mask-6"
I thought this one could have been an African mask.
What a wide range of styles these things come in!

"Inuit Mask-5"
I love this one. S/He seems to be smirking at us! And the coors were
quite a bit different from most of the other masks I've seen.

"Inuit Mask-1"
I was at the Detroit Institute of Arts a few weeks ago and this makes grabbed my attention. I took a snap of it and did a painting of it. Then I got on the interwebs and did some research on Inuit masks. Wow! The variety of masks was truly mind blowing. I quickly downloaded a ton of reference pix and am now doing a series of them. When I'm don, I should have at least 30 of them. I actually bought a mixed-media sketchbook to do them all in! I'll post them all here! Come back every day for a new one!

"St. Clair Fog"
Driving down Lakeshore recently, I noticed this beautiful scene in the fog. By the time I turned around and took a reference snap, the sailboat was out of the picture. So I went on the interwebs and found a pic of one and added it to the painting.

"Black Coreopsis"
I took a whole series of photos of flowers against a black background. I figured they'd make a nice series of paintings. This is the first on. Look for more to come!

"Looming Minster"
York is one of my favorite cities. One thing that's so interesting about it is that the cathedral (Minster) is located on the highest point in the city. So no matter where you are, it's always within view. And it's one of the most incredible churches I've ever visited.

"Thladiantha"
Another one in the series. I just started using Silver brushes thanks to the rec by Emily Olsen.
What an amazing brush! I just love the way it holds a point!

"Echinacea"
I haven't done one of these studies in a while. In the past I've done them in acrylics, but I decided to try my hand at watercolor versions. The images are taken from a floral encyclopedia. It's absolutely full of beautiful images, so I have plenty of reference material to continue the series.

"Stacks"
Another interesting looking steel mill. One of these days, I'd like to take a road trip and look for some of these old structures and paint them plein air.

"Wall. Flower."
Saw this pretty little flower hanging on for dear life on a brick wall in York, England. I probably should have used a more subdued background color and treated to the plant would stick out more. Oh well. I think it still works okay.

"Dynamic Duo"
A painting I did of my younger daughter's handsome cats--Sonny and Ozzie!
This was taken from a post she put on IG.
