The next batch...
My love of the arts began early on in life and was greatly influenced by an inspiring photography teacher in high school. I began teaching myself to paint in 2019 and have had my work exhibited in numerous shows in the Detroit area. One of the joys of being an artist is looking at the world in totally different ways and discovering a painting or photograph in a million unexpected places. For inquiries: dominmark@yahoo.com

"Spec Work"
These glasses sitting on the kitchen counter caught my eye.
I love the reflection on the black granite. I thought I'd do it monochromatic, using a warmer Ivory Black for most of the scene and Mars Black for the glasses. Not sure if you can see the difference in the photo.

"Re: Uniting"
This watercolor was inspired by a scene from the movie of the same title. I thought the movie showed promise, it was about a college reunion where six people get together for a weekend at one of their lakefront homes. Boy did it ever get depressing. Take it from me, don't watch it.

"It's Mozzarella, Fella"
Decided to do a few more in the series. I had a hard time getting the pieces of fresh mozzarella to look edible. The grey shading kinda works. I'm not entirely happy with it.

"Paws Forward"
I've done a bunch of paintings of my cat Lizzie. But I've never done one at such a dramatic viewpoint as this one. This is not an easy angle to paint. It turned out better than I thought it was going to.

"A Little Axolotl"
I volunteer at the Belle Isle Aquarium a couple times a month. I kept hearing about these creatures and couldn't believe how popular they are. It's partly due to their inclusion in the video game, Mind Craft, and partly because of how cute they are. I finally took a peek at them a couple weeks ago. Wow! They look like something Disney would create. I did a painting of one and believe me, this is exactly what they look like! No fooling!

"In a New York Minute"
Saw this beautiful movie a couple weeks ago. I took a screen grab from one of the scenes
and turned it into this painting.
Here's a link to my review of the movie, with a trailer:

"Razzleberries"
Spotted these at Trader Joe's the other day and thought I'd add it to my series of fruits and veggies in containers. Then yesterday at Kroger's I saw a ton of perfect subjects for future paintings. Look for a bunch more to come.

"Sundown in Motown"
While attending a concert at Orchestra Hall's outdoor stage, I happened to wander over to Woodward Ave. and caught this beautiful sight. The sun was setting directly behind me and the reflection off the building downtown was spectacular. They say timing is everything. And this surely proves that!
