There are tons of these little corner gas stations around town. And most of them are in pretty good shape.

I can just imagine a couple old geezers sitting around all day, shooting the breeze here.

This is the first of three scenes I painted from the wonderful film "Across the River and Into the Trees." If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. Beautifully shot movie that takes place largely in Venice. How could it not be great, I ask you?

Cave art-The first five in the series

I recently decided to do a series of paintings based on images I found on the web. Here are the first ones.

 

"Mbu-hoo"

One of the perks of volunteering at the Belle Isle Aquarium is I get to spend a lot of time observing the fish. This is one of my favorites. These guys are so curious about visitors on the other side of the glass. He always comes up and checks me out whenever I pass by him. I thought I owed him a portrait!

"Finding You-Know-Who"

I'm fortunate to be a volunteer at the Belle Isle Aquarium--an historic and enchanting place to work. I've been doing the occasional painting of some of the residents and this is one of them. 

 

"Ashley's Arrangement"

When we were leaving my niece's house on Thanksgiving, I noticed this unusual flower arrangement.
I thought it might make an interesting still life.

I thought it was surprising that a city as large as Highland Park 

only had two old bank buildings.

I noticed this a few evenings ago. The destinctive shadows our lemon tree was making on the ceiling in our living room. Decided it might make an interesting painting
