"Pine Cone No. 1"

 

While hiking around my local park, I noticed a bunch of pine cones had fallen from the various trees. So I picked a few up thinking they might make an interesting study. I was surprised at the difference in the cones--so I decided to make it a series of sketch-paintings. Here's the first installment.
