"Arrangement by Hannah S."

My niece's cousin posted a floral arrangement she did on IG. So, being totally shameless I downloaded it and did a painting of it. To thank her, I gave her the painting I like the way it turned out. This is a bit different for me. I rarely do things as traditional as a still life of some flowers.

"The Next Door's Balloon Flowers

Our next door neighbors have a small flower bed in front of their house. Every year I admire the ballon flowers that bloom in late June/early July. I decided to try and capture them in watercolors.

"The Corner"

This was a couple of blocks from out hotel in Edinburgh. One evening, I spotted this beautiful sky, just as the sun was setting. Just had to commit it to canvas.

"Tron Kirk"

Found the really cool space in Edinburgh. It was an old church that was converted into an art gallery and concert venue. What a great idea. There are a ton of shuttered churches in Detroit. Too bad they aren't being repurposed. Well, at least they haven't ben torn down like so many beautiful structures here.

"Mauritius"

Watched a cute movie "Love in the Villa" a few weeks ago. It was a predictable but sweet rom-com. What impressed me was the scenery. It was shot on Mauritius, which was breathtakingly beautiful. So I did a bit of research on the net and found some good reference pix. This is the watercolor I did based on a photo. It looks like paradise! I'll be adding it to my bucket list for sure.

"Victoria Street"

I read recently that this was voted the most colorful street in Great Britain. I'm guessing it's also the most photographed one in Scotland as well. Here's a rare painting where I've included human figures. Sooner or later, I'm going to have to learn how to draw people. It's on the "To do" list for sure.

"Penguin Play"

Visited the Detroit Zoo a couple weeks ago. The highlight of the afternoon was the Penguin House. There you could watch the penguins play overhead! So much fun!

"Front Porch Beauties"

Planted these Lilies a couple years ago and every year they seem to get more beautiful.
Thought I'd take a stab at them with watercolors. The background was inspired by a watercolor I saw at the LACMA this winter. I think I need to get less literal and more impressionistic with my backgrounds. Especially something like this. It's a painting after all.

"Royal Mile Restaurant"

Edinburgh is such a picturesque city. Every where you look you spot something that would make a lovely painting. Over the next few weeks, I'll here turning my pix into paintings.

"View with a Room"

Many moons ago, I took a year off school to travel around Europe. One of the coolest museums I visited was the Museum of Childhood in Edinburgh, Scotland. I had to good fortune to visit it again recently. And even though a portion of it was closed for remodeling, it still was worth the visit. It sure brought back a ton of memories. Walking around I discovered this little nook. I thought it would make an interesting painting. Proving once again, you just never know where a painting is lurking!

"Wall of Sound"

Stopped into a cafe in Edinburgh for a cuppa Joe, and took it into the courtyard to relax.
Found this interesting little vignette on the wall!

"Loose Lily"

I decided to challenge myself and do  loose painting with a limited palette and one brush.
This is what I ended up with.

"Doyle's Stairwell"

While walking around Edinburgh, we saw a beautiful ld building with a sign saying it was the
Arthur Conan Doyle Society headquarters. So we stopped in and checked out the sumptuous interior. Looking up I spotted this gorgeous stairwell So I snapped a quick pic. And that inspired this painting. I did mention to the receptionist that this was the same person who believed in fairies. (I couldn't help myself).

"Birch Backdrop"

  Who doesn't love birch trees?
