As the title would indicate, this was the morning sky 15 minutes after the painting below. The sky was so dramatic, but it only lasted about 20 minutes or so. It pays to get up early!
My love of the arts began early on in life and was greatly influenced by an inspiring photography teacher in high school. I began teaching myself to paint in 2019 and have had my work exhibited in numerous shows in the Detroit area. One of the joys of being an artist is looking at the world in totally different ways and discovering a painting or photograph in a million unexpected places. For inquiries: dominmark@yahoo.com

"Charlevoix Sunrise 7:50 am"
The day after an amazing sunset, I witnessed this incredible sunrise. The clouds and coloration change so fast I was lucky to grab couple snaps of it. I turned both into paintings.

"Mack Avenue Sunset"
I hiked a couple blocs one evening to catch this dramatic sunset. It was super cold but definitely worth it. The next morning's sunrise was equally stunning!
"Lionized"
Spotted this interesting little scene out on an evening walk. I love the shadow from the lion against the house. It just has an aura of mystery to it.

"Fort Street Presbyterian Church"
One of the more beautiful old Detroit churches. Lot's of memories here. I thought I'd do it in a looser style--a bit like a watercolor. I'm thinking of doing a whole series of old Detroit churches.

"Snow Man-iac"
There's just no end to the oddball Christmas displays, is there? I especially enjoy the deflated Santas strewn across people's lawns. Here's one of the more unusual snowmen I've seen.

"Takin' it to the Street"
Took a walk around the neighborhood as the holidays are winding down. This lone lighting display caught my attention.

"Don't Look Up!"
I've been walking by this scene for ages. I finally figured out the right angle to paint. I love the way the lights light up the trees, but are hidden by the tall white fence.

Pi Day"
Confession: Key Lime Pie is one of my favorite desserts. I saw a painting done in a casual style of a slice of pie some time back and I thought I'd do one of my own. Voila! Might hang this one in our kitchen.

Project Hail Mary"
I saw a painting on InstaGram the other day and it inspired me to do this one. I was going to do all jagged edges but it turned out a lot more fluid and swirly looking. When I was done I needed to name it something. I'd just finished reading "Project Hail Mary", which I thoroughly enjoyed, so I thought I'd borrow the title.

"Lost Coat"
Out on a walk a few weeks ago, I noticed this scene across from the Elementary School. It reminded my of my younger daughter who was alway losing things. Someone must have found this coat and hung it up on a fence. Hopefully, it found its way back to its owner!

"Sidewalk Aside"
Walking home from the grocery store, I just happened to look down and spotted this. It was a lone oak leaf on the sidewalk. I like the way the wet concrete surrounded it.
"Yellow on Orange"
Just a pretty daisy(?) I found at Trader Joe's. I'm always amazed when I find some flower I've never seen before. Especially ones that are worth painting!
